Microneedling Pre-Care and Day of Instructions
Preparing properly for your microneedling treatment helps minimize bruising and supports the best possible results. Please review the instructions below before your appointment
To help ensure the best possible results and minimize the risk of irritation or complications, please follow these instructions before your microneedling treatment.
7 Days Before Treatment
- Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds or self tanners on the treatment area
- Do not wax, thread, or use depilatory creams in the treatment area.
- Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or other aggressive skin treatments.
- Stop using exfoliating products including Retinol/Retin-A/Tretinoin, Glycolic acid, Salicylic acid, Benzoyl peroxide, Vitamin C serums if irritating
3–5 Days Before Treatment
- Discontinue use of retinoids, exfoliants, prescription acne medications unless otherwise prescribed
- Stay well hydrated.
- Avoid alcohol consumption 24 hours prior to treatment.
- Limit caffeine intake the day of treatment if you are sensitive.
24 Hours Before Treatment
- Avoid shaving the treatment area if prone to irritation.
- Avoid strenuous exercise that may irritate the skin.
- Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotion, sunscreen and perfume
Important Medical Information
Please notify your provider before treatment if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have an active cold sore or herpes outbreak
- Have open wounds, cuts, or active acne infections
- Have a history of keloid scarringAre taking blood thinners
- Are currently using Accutane or have used it within the last 6 months
- Have recently had facial surgery or cosmetic procedures
Day of Appointment
- Eat a light meal before your appointment.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- If you are prone to cold sores and treating around the mouth, ask your provider whether preventative antiviral medication is recommended.
What to Expect After Treatment
- You may experience redness similar to a mild sunburn, tightness or dryness mild swelling or sensitivity
- These effects are normal and typically subside within 24–72 hours..
